Parish Life

The Eucharistic Sacrifice of the Mass is the source and summit of Christian life in the Catholic tradition. From the Mass flows all the riches and the power of all that we do. We believe that in the Mass, we receive and meet the living Christ.

Parishioners are involved in this regular celebration in many ways:

Eucharistic Ministers

The Ministry of Reading: Readers are organised on a rota basis.

Music Ministry: Currently, we do not have an organist, but we love to sing!

Altar Servers: assist the priest at Sunday Mass and receive on the job training.

Children's liturgy: Children can have their own Liturgy of the Word during Sunday Mass led by our Catechists.

Care of the Sanctuary and Church: A parishioner looks after the altar linens; a team looks after the floral decorations and church cleanliness.

Help is given with keeping the church grounds tidy.

Other activities

Devotions: Normally, on each Saturday after the 10:30 Mass, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for veneration followed by Benediction. The Rosary is recited on Mondays at 12:00 noon. During Advent and Lent, special penitential services are held, and a Christmas Carol Service is held before Christmas - could be followed by mince pies and mulled wine!

For study, we have links with The Ogilvie Institute in Aberdeen, which offers certificate, diploma and degree courses in a wide range of subjects that can be studied at a distance - ideal for us on these islands. Maryvale also features in the study life of the Parish.

In addition, depending on demand, we have a Journey in Faith (RCIA) programme running during the winter months. This is for all who would like to improve their knowledge of their faith and especially for those who are interested in becoming Catholics themselves.

Finance In Canon law the parish Priest is the administrator of the parish. The Parish Council attempt to assist the Parish Priest to carry out his duties of good housekeeping and the maintenance of parish records. The Parish Council consists of members elected at the Annual Parish Meeting.
